Current research into Co-Q10, also known as "Vitamin Q," has shown a number of fascinating health benefits, such as lowering blood pressure, counteracting degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and muscular dystrophy, boosting energy, and helping to treat heart failure. The benefits seem limitless, and while research is still ongoing and not yet conclusive, results thus far are promising.

Co-Q10 is a naturally-occurring enzyme in every cell of the body, particularly in the energy-producing mitochondria organelles within the cells. As a component of the electron transport chain, it is an integral part of the cellular respiration process, which transforms food and air into ATP, or energy, that we use to go about our lives. ATP, or adenosine triphosphate, is used to power 95% of the body's functions, both conscious and unconscious. People with low levels of Co-Q10, therefore, don't transform food into energy as efficiently as people with normal levels, and thus their bodies simply have less energy overall. The immune system is compromised, cell repair is limited, toxins aren't flushed as effectively, and blood sugar levels don't stabilize as quickly, among other things.

Almost everything that you'd like your body to do on its own is impaired by not having enough ATP. If Co-Q10 isn't present in large enough quantities, the body won't produce enough ATP. Despite this, however, it is always important to consult a doctor or health professional before beginning any new dietary supplement.

There have been concerns about Co-Q10's side effects, notably that in some people it can cause diarrhea and rash. Because it lowers blood sugar levels, diabetics should especially be careful when using it, and always consult a doctor. As with any supplement, it is meant to be an additional, supplementary element to treating disease - it is not a treatment for chronic disease in and of itself. Your Body and Co-Q10

In the human body, CoQ-10 is found concentrated in the heart and liver tissue, where it functions in the respiratory electron transport system in mitochondria. Consequently, its toxicity to the human body is extremely low. It has ten isoprene units forming a side chain attached to benzoquinone ring and all the ten double bonds in the side chain should be ''trans'' form to be physiologically effective in medicinal applications.

Two manufacturing processes are currently being used in Japan to commercially produce CoQ-10:

1. Chemical synthesis process
2. Microbial fermentation process

In the case of chemical synthesis, relatively higher rates of ''cis''-isomers in the side chain (pharmacologically less active form) and Coenzyme Q-9 which has only 9 isoprene units in the side chain are formed as byproducts which must be eliminated from the final product through a purification process. On the other hand, the natural fermentation process yields the ''all-trans'' form Q-10 (pharmacologically active form), resulting in scarcely a trace of Coenzyme Q-9.

From 1969 to 1978, our Japanese vendor had expanded its efforts in the research and development of Single Cell Proteins (microbial protein). They have established a unique continuous fermentation process utilizing these single microbial cells, which does not allow contamination by undesirable organisms.

Based on this technology, they have developed their own proprietary process for the production of CoQ-10. The process uses a selected kind of Non-Genetically Modified Microorganism that is cultivated in a continuous fermentor. The fermentation broth is extracted, then further purified by a column chromatographic process to yield pure CoQ-10 which is then used in our Q 10 supplement. The whole process is controlled under GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) providing you with the best CoQ10 supplement on the market.
